Question: How do I get connected to a nonprofit?
Answer: Charities of all kinds apply to receive help from our network of volunteers. One of our Project Managers will have a discovery meeting with the organization to initially scope the project. The Project Manager then reaches out to registered volunteers to find out if they’re willing and able to take on the project pro bono. If the volunteer would like to take on the project, we connect them to the organization and provide continued project management to help see the project through.
Both the volunteer and the organization have the right to end the arrangement at any time for any reason.
Question: What do I receive for volunteering?
Answer: Organizations are expected to provide a letter of recommendation that describes the impact the volunteer had and any other positive details they’d like to include.
Volunteering through The AZ Techy Foundation is a great way to build your resume and have a high impact in the community for causes you care about.
Question: What do I need to commit to?
Answer: You aren’t asked to commit to anything when your [register as a volunteer]. We do ask about what your commitment might look like. For example, you might be able to commit to 5 hours a week, 8 hours on a Saturday, 10 hours over summer break, or 30 minutes in the evenings. We use these details when we’re evaluating which volunteers might be a good fit for a project.
However, if for any reason you cannot commit to the project, you can say no. If your situation has changed, we’ll update your registration to help us better match you in the future.
Volunteer Opportunities
Information Technology Consulting
Remote or Hybrid
Do you have expertise in networking, processes, software, web services, or other professional IT roles? Help design roadmaps and oversee implementation.
Software & IT Assistance
Remote or Hybrid
Assist organizations with software installation, troubleshooting, and general IT support. This role is ideal for those who enjoy problem-solving and helping others navigate technical challenges.
Provide technical assistance to nonprofit staff, ensuring their hardware and software systems are running smoothly. Volunteers may help with setting up new workstations, managing user accounts, or providing training on specific software tools.
Information Technology Support
Remote
This volunteer role is one of the most flexible and typically involves short-term commitments. Nonprofits who’ve joined our IT Support program may submit tickets through Jira that volunteers assign to themselves. If a ticket is unresolved in a short period of time, a Project Manager or Client Relations Manager may ask program volunteers directly to handle a ticket.
Tickets might include trouble with hardware, software, a website, etc. Because The AZ Techy Foundation is not a provider, typically support volunteers are re-training clients or helping them contact the correct provider.
Cybersecurity
Remote or Hybrid
Protect nonprofit organizations from digital threats by conducting security audits, implementing robust firewalls, and establishing data protection protocols. Volunteers with expertise in risk assessment and threat mitigation can help safeguard sensitive donor and constituent information. Relevant professional certifications for this role include CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
A background check may be required.
Website Assistance
Remote or Hybrid
Today, most nonprofits are using WordPress, Wix, or a similar Content Management System Platform. Help make major changes, resolve bugs, and train clients to better use the platform they are already on. Volunteers might also commit to migrating outdated websites to a modern CRM Platform or building out a brand new website.
Any experience level may [register for this role]. We offer shadowing and mentorship opportunities to help volunteers grow their skillset
Social Media & Ads
Remote or Hybrid
Support nonprofits in reaching a wider audience by developing comprehensive social media strategies and managing ad targeting campaigns. Volunteers can also play a crucial role in helping organizations apply for and maximize the impact of the Google Ad Grant to increase their online visibility.
Project Management
Remote
The AZ Techy Foundation needs volunteers that can coordinate calls with nonprofits, scope projects, connect an appropriate volunteer, and keep the project moving on a reasonable timeline. Project Managers create Jira Stories and Tasks as appropriate to the client’s needs. Any skill level is accepted and we’re happy to mentor project managers along the way. We try to assign project managers to project requests that they may be well suited to.
Like with our other volunteers, organizations are expected to provide a letter of recommendation for the project manager.
Volunteer Intake & Professional Vetting
Remote
Help onboard and vet volunteers within your expertise. This role is excellent for team leads and people that may already be involved in hiring processes. Confirm work history, certificates, and perform background checks as necessary.
Client Relations Management
Remote or Hybrid
Every nonprofit that works with The AZ Techy Foundation is assigned a Client Relations Manager. Volunteers in this role become experts in the client’s organization and connect a Project Manager to new client requests.
Operations
